'TIS AN IDLE FANCY - A poem my me written in an idle moment ...

                                                 'Tis AN IDLE FANCY

                                                                                        A poem by Deepak Menon

I love HER? How can you say that?
I tell you it is not true!!
You insist! Even when it isn't a fact?
Oh! How can I convince you?
.
I do not believe a word you say!
And even if I did, so what?
So what if throughout the day
My brow is feverish and hot?
.
So what if from my deepest slumber
I start, and then to her call out?
So what if efforts to erase her memory
Have by time - been put to rout?
.
So what if I often think of her,
And talk and dream and live her name?
So what if my eyes are often filmed
With tears of sorrow, lingering shame
.
That I could not my conscience still
And keep my tryst with destiny's call?
So what if her image my heart does fill
So what if she holds my heart in thrall?
.
'Tis nonsense, once more I tell you
You are mistaken, though you know me well
Even though away with my soul she flew
'Tis an idle fancy, - can't you tell?

African Woman -A painting by Deepak Menon (House Husband)

Nothing posted by me since a long time - so here is a painting I made many years ago of an African Woman playing an African Musical Instrument - I saw the picture in the National Geographic Magazine somewhere and though the painting is changed a lot from the Photograph, the expression on the woman's face was so plaintive that it stuck to my mind and the painting reflects that to some extent!

story teller: The Story Of Last Prisoner Of War
This link was sent to me by Mrs Rita Chauhan (then Rita Panwar) who taught me in school when I was in Class 9. Now 41 years have passed and she still keeps in touch with the naughtiest of her students - me!
Read this story - it deserves to be read and that is a tribute  to "Joe" who was an Indian Army taken prisoner by the Pakistan army and incarcerated there!

I am now well on the way of getting the first of my Children's Books published which is a relief to my friends and family since they were quite certain that I had become a slacker as soon as I left my bank ha ha
Well, I had been a slacker for the first 6-7 months and really enjoyed being one. Now the Illustrator - a very talented young art student from Serbia has been awarded the contract and the images are now being made - one is on the link too though it is still under revision - so hope to have it on Amazon and Createspace Bookshelfs by June end. I hope you all buy some copies - I think you will like them. Once again, the link to the Preview of the Book is :-

I have also pasted it on my facebook page - my ID there is only demoninlove@yahoo.com - so check it out there too and remember to write a very nice flattering and encouraging comment too so that I can get the inspiration to become even more foolhardy than I am at this time ..heee hee  hee

THE SONG OF THE SOUL OF THE PARTY - a poem by me

THE SONG OF THE SOUL OF THE PARTY
by Deepak Menon
The intensity of the blow which has
NOT FALLEN YET,
Has crushed me from within with
ITS IMPENDING THREAT,
Has ulcerated my mind, body, soul
Reduced my existence to despair
AN UNDYING DEATH.
**
For die I can not, nor
EVEN DESPAIR STILL,
Tho' bent within and knotted without
OF SHATTERED WILL,
I must forever crawl, however cringing, towards
the dawn of hope always hidden beyond
THE NEXT HILL.
**
But hope of what, I dare not even
CONTEMPLATE,
Each victory won, does, to
EQUAL LOSS RELATE,
To cherish hope is to shatter hopes
The face of doomed love is
CLOAKED WITH HATE,
**
So close I my mind in
AN IRON BOX,
So turn I my heart
INTO COARSE ROCK,
So paint I my face into
A WOODEN SMILE,
Stifling the pain with
LAUGHTER AND TALK.

MICHELLE AND ABHISHEK GOT MARRIED TODAY - 11 MAY 2012

I attended their wedding at the Centenary Memorial Methodist Church today and time stood still - no it rolled back 35-40 years - for starters - James Rodney Hersey was there - 87 years old and still looking a very sprightly 50-60! The full complement of the Grays were there with Phyllys John and both the daughters Barbara and Jenny and their husbands and children - such an incredible thing meeting them after all these decades! I posted the card and left for the reception at Dwarka with Abha, who missed the wedding because she had to attend a high level meeting or something at the bank - but she met a lot of of people there.
And the reception in Dwarka was a very very nice affair - lots or really excellent food and lots of dancing and fun too.
I am not uploading photos one by one and hope someone will comment and fill in the names of every one - there were lots of relatives and children I did not know - remember we met after over 30 years.
Will be back to post more here and lots and lots of photos

Why Fatboy Slim skipped us - Hindustan Times

Link That is another "tongue in the cheek article by Serena in the Hindustan Times" and I enjoy her not so subtle yet effective style of writing with ingrained humour which definitely brings a smile to my face .. and I will not shift to Mumbai because I need "space" for an afterparty - a concept I learnt from her earlier article on the subject!

The Asteroid that Flattened Mars

iframe width 480 height 270 src http://www.youtube.com/embed/JgMXPXdqJn8?fs 1 frameborder 0 allowfullscreen> /iframe>

This is one of the most pragmatic and thrilling video films about Mars that I have seen ever since I started searching for information about the red planet - Mars. The narration is clear and lucid and designed for every one to understand without any technical jargon to confuse people who do not have a technical science background or exposure to such an environment. Do spend some time to see the video and hear this wonderful narration with your speakers on. You will remember it always as most memorable.

‘I’m just an Eastern philosophy kind of guy’ 1

Captain America Chris Evans spent three weeks in Rishikesh in 2005-06, but is working so hard that he can’t return

The brain is a noisy place and all this is just to quiet it down. It’s certainly helpful
to me while I’m on sets
—Actor Chris Evans

Actor Chris Evans currently sports short dark hair, a promising beard and a Zen-like state of mind. Nothing like the buffed-up look he fashioned onscreen at the premiere of his upcoming biggie, The Avengers, which took place at the El Capitan theatre in LA on Wednesday. “I am a hat, beard, sunglasses kind of guy, but little kids are so good. They’ll just spot you in a crowd… that’s Captain America!” jokes Evans, who reprises his part as the superhero in Joss Whedon’s multi-cast film this April 27.

A still from The Avengers

Most Hollywood actors have little to say when asked about India. In Evans’s case, there was no ‘I like Bollywood for its song and dance’ or ‘I’m coming to the country to see the Taj Mahal soon’ kind of answer. He knows absolutely nothing about the Hindi film industry. But during the course of the conversation, it became evident that he seemed to have a more spiritual connection in place. “I spent three weeks in Rishikesh in 2005 or 2006 at a Buddhist retreat. I attend a Buddhism class here in LA and the woman who teaches had trained there. So we all went and stayed in this little village for about three weeks, hiked the Himalayas, camped on the banks of the Ganga… it was great,” says Evans, who has been missing this annual trip with his group due to his film commitments. “And that really sucks!” he says.

At the age of 16 or 17, Evans began reading up and speaking to people about the philosophy, only to realise his calling. “There was a whole religion that felt the way I was feeling. That’s when I thought, ‘Wow, I think I’m a Buddhist’. But even in India you realise that Buddhism, Daoism and Hinduism are very similar. It’s just the dogma that separates these religions. And I’m not going to get caught up in that. I’m just more of an Eastern philosophy kind of guy,” says the actor, adding that, “The brain is a noisy place and all this is just to quiet it down. It’s certainly helpful to me while I’m on the sets.” >> ‘I almost didn't do Captain America’ P 8

The world is becoming a smaller place and now that the HT has started actually going to the site of action, it is able to go beyond a description of the glitter or events like the release of the "Avengers" and is able to actually peer into the psyche of the actors in such great blockbusters and be able to show that India is no longer thought of as a land of the naked fakirs, but instead is more a place where its multicultural heritage touches the hearts and "makes a difference" to the lives of people all over the world.
Am looking forward to seeing the movie as soon as it releases and will enjoy reading the coverage or its first show in India.
Thanks for a good article
