BREMEN - GERMANY - DEEPAK ABHA MASHINDER JULY 2011

Mashinder dove us in his car to Bremen - and on the way we enjoyed the impeccable German landscape - precision is the word that comes to mind when one thinks of Germany and we arrived at Bremen in good spirits. It is really a very fine city! We roamed all around the town area and savored the wonderful architecture of the buildings. many many wonderful statues, beautiful gardens and flowers, fascinating bylanes of old Bremen where there were quaint shops -each different from the next and each selling its own brand of goods. The cobble stones and the bicycle tracks were so nice to see. And the discipline amazing. No one - I repeat - No one every violated a traffic rule even though we seldom saw the traffic police!

Thank you for the Photos, dear Deepak.

What a strange land this Germany, indeed.

Take care, and your Family and Friends.

Dear Catherine
Germany was truly a Revelation to us. I had thought that it would be full of strange whiskered and bearded people speaking a guttural tongue. I had thought that Germany would be a place where people wear Jackboots and are more likely to be descendents of some Central European Germanic tribe which had been further infected with the ideologies of that unfortunate and sad figure in history who almost brought civilization to a standstill during the 2nd world war and whose name has assumed a diabolical overtone and may not be spoken without a shudder.....
But the Germany I saw was full of very decent people. They were helpful always. Their discipline left me open mouthed and wishing that we Indians had even an iota of the precision and discipline the German people had!!
And in retrospect, after seeing their amazing architecture and the beautiful statues scattered across every place we went to, one remembers that besides the great engineers that Germany has produced, the German music and orchestras have produced some of the really immortal compositions in the world of Music ever.
Indeed - Germany appeared to be a strange land, and by the time we left, many of the impressions about Germany that we had carried since we were born, had either vanished or been modified immeasurably for the better.
And many Germans knew English also!
Glad you enjoyed the photos dear Catherine!

I had a similar impression in 2009.

This is very good.
