Deepak
Dear Friends
Just about a year after I voluntarily retired from the State Bank of India, to write books and novels to delight the hearts of young and old alike, yesterday one of my books "Tales of the Booga Dooga Land - The Wormus", fully illustrated in colour with 14 Full page illustration, was finally published by "Createspace" which is the Publishing Wing of ww.amazon.com and is right now available at the bookshelves of createspace.com
The book can be bought online immediately at THE PUBLISHERS ONLINE STORE  https://www.createspace.com/4047216 which contains a short preview of the book with its cover and a brief biography of me also.
I had the illustrations made by an extraordinary Artist, visualizer and illustrator who is from South Africa, Julie Sneeden, an artist of international repute.
It is available at the online bookshelves of Amazon.com also . I have given Amazon.com extended publishing rights for the UK where it will be available in Pound Sterling and entire "Europe" also where it will be available in Euros.
I have also given Amazon  extended publishing rights which will make it available to book sellers/ stores/ libraries  across the US, UK and Europe at the publishers wholesale rates.
For everyone ACROSS THE WORLD,  including us here in India, we will have to buy it online from the Publishers online bookstore at https://www.createspace.com/4047216 and http://www.amazon.com/ using our credit cards. I ordered 4 copies last night for me, my wife Abha and the kids, and was sad to see that they did not give any free copies even to me the author - times are changing ha ha. The good thing is that I will get royalty even for the books I buy ha ha.
I do hope you all will buy lots of copies for Christmas and New Year Presents , and really enjoy the books, and definitely read them out with play acting to the kids and grandchildren in your family. Remember to play act the "book reading" for the children, like I did to my children 20 years ago, when I used to think up each chapter and then narrate them to my little daughter and son - they still remember those days, and in a way these stories are the result of their excitement and joy, when the stories unfolded little by little. .
Another of my books "Tales of the Booga Dooga Land - Pickwick's Plan" was slightly delayed because the illustrator from Serbia had a serious accident and did not return and so I finally scrapped whatever work had been done by her, and asked Julie Sneeden to illustrate it too - I expect that Pickwick's Plan will be published in the next couple of months. Now you can rush to https://www.createspace.com/4047216 and set the ball rolling.
With love and laughter and warm wishes enclosed for you, your friends and family

My 2nd Children’s book completed today and an UPDATE on me

THIS IS FOR ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY IF THEY READ THIS
(I think that I'll also post this on my blog in Wordpress and ipernity and Blogspot and esoteric too,so someone of the other may read it and not blame me for being uncommunicative)
I am not posting much on the blogs because I am rather involved in completing my GREAT (tongue in cheek comment) children's books which I am sure will earn me enough to buy my Lear Jet and fly and meet every one in a jiffy ha ha
I just completed my 2nd book - a sequel to the first children's book - complete in every respect - edited book text, full page illustrations. map, epilogue, acknowledgements, special commendation for illustrator, and glossary.
The first is held up because my illustrator from Serbia had an accident and dropped out - so I am having the illustrations made by another fantastic illustrator - this time the same one who has done the sequel from South Africa
The 2nd book is a sequel so it can not be published until the first one is completed ha ha
I think I will release both together somewhere in Jan or Feb 2013 and they will be available on www.amazon.com only as hard-copy books - I don't want them digitally published as e-Books since they are actually for adults of all ages as much as for children of all ages and children don't like computer books
I joined an international BANK as a part time consultant - 3-4 hours a day - at my own timings - since 1st Oct 2012, so now Abha can not fire me for being unemployed ha ha and it gives me enough time to do my books too
Best part is that I am completely independent and no rules except the ones I make which are like the rules of my children's books
Keep in touch in any case on email if you will, demoninlove@yahoo.com
Cheering wildly for you all since I am alone at home in the stillness of the dreamy night in Delhi ...

I TRODUCTION`
The idea of a pilgrimage came from the Buddha
himself over 2500 years ago! In answer to Ven.
Ananda’s concern that the monks would no
longer be able to see the Buddha and pay their
respects after his Parinibbana, Buddha advised
pious disciples to visit Four Places, the sight of
which will inspire faith (saddha) and religious
urgency (samvega) after He was gone. These
places are called Samvejaniya-thana in Pali or
places that arouse awareness and apprehension
of impermanence. What are the Four Places?
3
LUMBINI: Here the Tathagata was born! This, Ananda,
is a place that a pious disciple should visit and look upon with
feelings of reverence.”
BUDDHAGAYA: Here the Tathagata attained the
unexcelled Supreme Enlightenment! This, Ananda, is a
place that a pious disciple should visit and look upon with
feelings of reverence.”
SAR ATH: Here the Tathagata set rolling the Wheel of
Dhamma! This, Ananda, is a place that a pious disciple
should visit and look upon with feelings of reverence.”
KUSI ARA: Here the Tathagata passed away into
Parinibbana. This, Ananda, is a place that a pious disciple
should visit and look upon with feelings of reverence.”
And whosoever, Ananda, should die on such a pilgrimage,
with his heart established in faith, he at the breaking up of the
body, after death, will be reborn in a realm of heavenly
happiness.” Mahaparinibbana Sutta V, 16

Pilgrimage. The route starting from Delhi and ending at
Sarnath covers all the Eight Great Places of Pilgrimage.
The return journey by train is shown by the dotted line.

5
LUMBI I: BIRTHPLACE OF THE BUDDHA
Lumbini is located in Nepal, about 20 km from the border town
of Bhairawa, just across the Indian border crossing at Sonauli.
The Buddha was born on the full-moon day of Wesak. His
mother was Mahamaya Devi, chief consort of King
Suddhodana. Already 56 years old and in the final stage of
pregnancy carrying the Bodhisatta for 10 full months, she was
traveling to her parents’ home in Devadaha to deliver her first
child following the tradition of her Koliyan clan. Along the way,
the entourage passed Lumbini Garden, a pleasure grove of
Sala trees, which were then in full bloom. She decided to stop
there to admire the flowering trees and plants. Soon she began to
experience signs of impending birth. Quickly she summoned her
female servants to cordon off the area with curtains. Then
holding on to the branch of a Sala tree with her right hand for
support, she gave birth to the Bodhisatta while standing up.
6
In 249 BC, King Asoka visited Lumbini
as part of his pilgrimage to the sacred
Buddhist places and worshipped the
sacred spot where the Buddha was born.
To commemorate his visit, he built an
Asokan Pillar with a horse capital and
an edict written in Brahmi. Today only
6.7 metres of the pillar still stands but
without its horse capital. According to
ancient Buddhist literature, when Asoka
visited Lumbini, he erected a brick
shrine and placed a “Marker Stone” on
top, to worship the exact site of the
Buddha’s birth. In 1992, archaeologists
started excavations at the old Maya Devi
temple and discovered the marker stone
pinpointing the exact spot where the
Buddha was born.

Bodhgaya, Place of Supreme Enlightenment
Buddhagaya, where Buddha attained Supreme Enlightenment on
the full-moon day of Wesak in 588 BC, is the most hallowed place
on earth to Buddhists. According to the Commentary, the Seat of
Enlightenment (Bodhi Pallanka) at Buddhagaya is one of the four
places that do not vary for all Buddhas (Avijahitatthanani).
King Asoka was the first to build a shrine at this sacred spot. In the
1st century AD, two Sunga queens enlarged the Bodhi shrine and in
the 2nd century AD, the Kushan king Huviska (111-138 AD) built
a temple on the site to install a Buddha image, which was then in
vogue. Cunningham suggested that the entire Mahabodhi Temple
as seen today follows the Huviska structure. As it was built over
the remains of the Asoka shrine, the position of the Diamond throne
remains unchanged. Inside the temple, one comes face-to-face with
a great gilded image of the Buddha from 10th century AD seated on
a patterned cushion instead of a lotus. It is supported by a pedestal,
decorated with figures of lions and elephants.

At the back of the Mahabodhi Temple is the Bodhi Tree under
which the Buddha attained Supreme Enlightenment. It is a Pipal
tree (Ficus religiosa), also known in Pali as ‘assattha’. The
Diamond Throne is located between the Bodhi tree and the rear
wall of the temple. It marks the actual spot of the Seat of
Enlightenment (Bodhi Pallanka). It is said that the Buddha sat
facing east with his back to the trunk of the Bodhi tree. A red
sandstone slab measuring 2.3 meters long by 1.3m wide by 0.9m
high now marks this holy spot. While in the Mahabodhi Temple,
pilgrims should visit the seven places associated with the Buddha’s
Stay at each place for seven days after Enlightenment:
First Week on the Throne (Pallanka Sattaha)
Second Week of the Unblinking Gaze (Animisa Sattaha)
Third Week on the Walk (Cankama Sattaha)
Fourth Week in Jewelled House (Ratanaghara Sattaha)
Fifth Week at Ajapala igrodha Tree (Ajapala Sattaha)
Sixth Week at Mucalinda (Mucalinda Sattaha)
Seventh Week at Rajayatana Tree (Rajayatana Sattaha)

SARNATH, PREACHI G OF FIRST SERMON
After spending seven weeks at the seven places in Buddhagaya, the
Buddha was undecided about teaching the Dhamma that he had
discovered to others. Brahma Sahampati, on reading his thoughts,
implored him to teach otherwise the world would be lost without the
Dhamma. Out of compassion, he decided to go to Sarnath to preach to
his former companions, the Five Ascetics, who had abandoned him
when he forsook the path of self mortification and adopted the Middle
Path or the oble Eightfold Path.
Travelling on foot, the Buddha arrived at Deer Park or Isipatana in
Sarnath on the full-moon day of Asalha (Chinese 6th lunar month).
When the Five Ascetics saw him, they were skeptical that he had
realized enlightenment but the Buddha was able to convince them of
his attainment. That night, the Buddha delivered the historic First
Sermon, Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta or Discourse on Turning of
the Wheel of Dhamma, which led to Ven. Kondanna attaining first
stage of Sainthood at the end of the discourse.

The remaining four, namely: Ven. Vappa, Bhaddiya, Mahanama
and Assaji attained first-stage sainthood successively over the next
four days. Next day the Buddha preached the Anattalakkhana Sutta
or Discourse on on Self, hearing which all attained Arahantship. In
Sarnath too, the Buddha converted the rich man Yasa and his 54
friends, who all became Arahants. These were the first sixty Arahant
disciples of the Buddha who formed the original Bhikkhu Sangha.
These events occurred during the first rainy season or Vassa. After the
rains had subsided, the Buddha instructed his sixty disciples to
disseminate the Teaching, no two disciples going by the same road.
Thus Sarnath became famous because of the following events:
First sermon, Discourse on Turning the Wheel of Dhamma.
Founding of Bhikkhu Sangha & spreading of the Dhamma.
First Rains Retreat took place in Sarnath.
According to Commentary, all Buddhas preach their first sermon in
Deer Park, Isipatana in Sarnath. It is called Avijahitatthanani or one
of the four places that do not vary for all Buddhas.

KUSINARA, PLACE OF MAHAPARI IBBA A
Three months before he reached the age of eighty, the Buddha
renounced his will to live at the Capala Shrine in Vesali.
Traveling in stages via Pava where he ate his last meal offered
by the smith Cunda, he reached the final resting-place at the
Sala grove of the Mallas by the bank of the Hirannavati River
in Kusinara. There on the full-moon day of Wesak in 543 BC,
the Buddha passed into Mahaparinbbana, the passing away into
Nibbana wherein the elements of clinging do not arise. His last
convert was the wandering ascetic Subhadda. His last words to
the bhikkhus were: “Handa ‘dani bhikkhave amantayami vo:
Vaya-dhamma sankhara. Appamadena sampadetha.”
Translation: “Indeed, bhikkhus, I declare this to you: It is
the nature of all conditioned things to perish. Accomplish all
your duties with mindfulness.”

DISTRIBUTIO OF THE BUDDHA’S BODILY RELICS
As soon as Buddha’s passing away became known, leaders of
eight states came to Kusinara to claim their share of his relics
after the cremation, viz: (1) King Ajatasattu of Magadha, (2)
Licchavis of Vesali, (3) Sakyas of Kapilavatthu, (4) Buliyas
of Allakappa, (5) Koliyas of Ramagama, (6) Brahmin of
Vetthadipa, (7) Mallas of Pava and (8) Mallas of Kusinara.
To satisfy the claimants and prevent fighting, the Brahmin
Dona divided the relics into 8 equal measures using an urn.
Each tribe received one measure of Buddha’s relics while
Dona took the urn. Later when the Moriyas of Pipphalivana
arrived, there were no more relics, so they took the ashes.
These men returned home and built ten stupas; eight for the
relics, a ninth for the urn and a tenth for the ashes.

"Else" our Multiply colleague has suggested this link - and I went through it and it is really dazzling - I think it would be a fitting place to migrate too and it has lots of links to other sites too including Multiply.
I have become a member there with my usual silly id demoninlove ha ha
In any case I think we can all open our accounts at least - the site depends upon donations and as such if no one donates anything it may close - so we all can take a call on that later after it is finalised
All the best and remember the demoninlove is me on all the sites ha ha

A Slip of the Disk is a fault of the mind - avoid ego rule

Dear Friends – Perfect or Imperfect, Tall or Short, Fat or Thin, Fair or Dark, Big or Small, Boys or Girls, Serious or Frivolous, Holy or Unholy Joe’s or Jane’s, or what ever other way you choose to describe yourself,
This is an UPDATE on how time has passed ever since I was laid on the bed as a result of my allowing my inflated ego determine my prowess and  thereby forgetting that my tremendous strength rested on my brawny arms and shoulders, and that thick globe I carry on my shoulders full of some dense woody substance they call my brain which can be better described by Abha who knows the extent of it’s thickness and density better than everyone, I leaped out of bed early one morning a couple of weeks ago, awakened by the sound of a Gas cylinder being knocked around, so I leaped up and rushed to the Kitchen, hysterically admonishing ABHA for attempting to perform a task better suited for one endowed with superhuman strength like me and certainly not meant to be done by a member of the delicate tender fairer sex like her, and then pushing her aside I bent and lifted the Gas Cylinder to insert it under the slab where the Gas Stove was lying, and since the stupid architect who had designed this flat for the State Bank of India under the generally ridiculous guidelines of the Premises Department of the Local Head Office many decades ago, with lots of angles at every intersection or joining of any two wall resulting in there not being even a single room which is either square or rectangular – the house is a jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts delight – and that architect has also put his special touches to the area under the kitchen slab by building a silly 6 inch high ledge on the floor which makes it impossible to push the Gas Cylinder under the slab and neither can it be put under the kitchen slab upright, and so it has to be lifted up 6 inches, and inclined at an angle of about 23 Degrees and then put inside which means that if one is not so particular about bending ones back 23 degrees everything is alright, except when one is trying to insert a full cylinder of Cooking Gas into the aforesaid space below the kitchen slab, because I have discovered to my horror that while the Gas Cylinder slipped in quite well, there is something called a disk or disc or whatever which is placed between ever set of two vertebrae in the spine of every living homo sapien, and that silly disc thing slips out the moment that Gas Cylinder slips in, and the tirade I was under process of delivering to Abha turned into a loud strangled shriek because the disk thing between some L-5 Vertebrae in my spine chose to slip out and attacked my spinal cord  which I later got to know is hanging around a few millimeters away and give a huge electric shock kind of severe pain in all the nerves of the lumbar area similar to what happens to lumberjacks when they try to ignore their brawny arms and try to lift a fallen tree using their backs instead – needless to say Abha has the habit of closing her eardrums   -something like the film that snakes or frogs can suddenly generate to cover their eyes with to block out the sight of any obnoxious creature like a mongoose if it ventures into the compass of their vision - so she did not bother to respond like a good Pavitra Hindu Nari wife should have done by bursting into tears and screaming with terror, but instead she went about whatever she was dong, till my specific comment that something has cracked in my back jerked her out of her stupor – and she came and after helping me straighten out, wasted the entire drama of the moment by NOT bursting into tears and screaming with terror like she should have done, but instead she told me to get into the bed and lie flat and she brought out the Chinese TIGER balm as I kept repeating that I had a sprain in my back, and those of you who have had occasion to use that Tiger Balm  thing  will understand how hot it made my back  as well which quite cooled the heat in my head -  so I remained in Bed and before leaving for office, she put the Laptop next to the bed and a big tray full of sweets and biscuits and a thermos of the super tea she makes etc etc and with the remote control of the TV as well as the AC also with my eBook and Lots of novels which I had been planning to read but did not get time to, so I had a great time in the bed and believe me this kind of luxury happens only once in a while so if you get a chance, then really enjoy yourself!
Since I hate going to the Doctor, I have an inflated ego, and also think that I am like the INCREDIBLE HULK,  I thought that it will get all right in a short while, I resisted going to the doctor and when it did not improve even after 10 days, finally Abha put  her foot down heavily on the floor, got me whining and cribbing into the Car and took me to the Doctor Bones a couple of kilometers away, and he gave me such a penetrating and piercing glare of approbation, that I had no courage to even try to sidestep his directive to admit me to his hospital IMMEDIATELY, so I succumbed and there I remained for 5 full days with nurses more like dragons attending to me and lots of chaps dropping into the room every half an hour to stretch me by hanging weights from my torso or turning me on my stomach and giving electric shocks to my spine or using some heating pads which almost burnt my remaining pride to ashes etc etc – so I remembered my friend Donald and while bearing the imprisonment as well as all the bruises to my huge ego, I said what he always said – “What to do?”.
To cut a long story short I am now back to the luxury of the 5 star home which Abha has kept just right for me with all the afore said luxuries and glad to say that so shall I remain for the next couple of weeks till I get the clearance from Dr. Bones to walk – though, between you and me, I do get up sometimes in between to go to the bathroom etc (Remember that all that is hidden behind that little word ‘etc’ will never be revealed so don’t even try to ask ha ha).
I would have written more details for the more inquisitive amongst you, but it is rather tiresome to lie in bed flat on your back and write a long letter so I am keeping this short, of course I think that a short letter like this is better than clicking on the ‘like’ icon on Facebook ha ha. Just remember to avoid lifting Gas Cylinders or even Big Bank Ledgers from the floor while sitting on a chair as my good friend Cherian told me just now when he rang up from Abu Dhabi where he is located, because he did that many years ago and faced the same slip of the disk and found out that it is different from a slip of the tongue, though in the business of banking, both may have horrific consequences ha ha.
Love to all of you and yours from Abha and I

KNOWLEDGE - WROTE THESE MANY YEARS AGO FOR MY CHILDREN

5. KNOWLEDGE 5.1 Knowledge is the sum total of one's life's experience and study.
And of all knowledge, the knowledge gained by one's personal experience is
the longest lasting.

5.2 Most people who thirst for knowledge never get a chance to obtain it, but
get lost in the desert sands of the struggle for existence. And most of those
who have been blessed with the means for acquiring knowledge, scorn its pursuit.
And most of those who acquire knowledge are soon gone from this world leaving
not a trace to show for it like rain on the sands of the desert.
It is the small miniscule who record their experiences for posterity, to whom we
owe every comfort of civilization.

5.3 Never has the birch raised a welt on which words of knowledge could
be imprinted.
