KNOWLEDGE - WROTE THESE MANY YEARS AGO FOR MY CHILDREN

5. KNOWLEDGE 5.1 Knowledge is the sum total of one's life's experience and study.
And of all knowledge, the knowledge gained by one's personal experience is
the longest lasting.

5.2 Most people who thirst for knowledge never get a chance to obtain it, but
get lost in the desert sands of the struggle for existence. And most of those
who have been blessed with the means for acquiring knowledge, scorn its pursuit.
And most of those who acquire knowledge are soon gone from this world leaving
not a trace to show for it like rain on the sands of the desert.
It is the small miniscule who record their experiences for posterity, to whom we
owe every comfort of civilization.

5.3 Never has the birch raised a welt on which words of knowledge could
be imprinted.

'TIS AN IDLE FANCY - A poem my me written in an idle moment ...

                                                 'Tis AN IDLE FANCY

                                                                                        A poem by Deepak Menon

I love HER? How can you say that?
I tell you it is not true!!
You insist! Even when it isn't a fact?
Oh! How can I convince you?
.
I do not believe a word you say!
And even if I did, so what?
So what if throughout the day
My brow is feverish and hot?
.
So what if from my deepest slumber
I start, and then to her call out?
So what if efforts to erase her memory
Have by time - been put to rout?
.
So what if I often think of her,
And talk and dream and live her name?
So what if my eyes are often filmed
With tears of sorrow, lingering shame
.
That I could not my conscience still
And keep my tryst with destiny's call?
So what if her image my heart does fill
So what if she holds my heart in thrall?
.
'Tis nonsense, once more I tell you
You are mistaken, though you know me well
Even though away with my soul she flew
'Tis an idle fancy, - can't you tell?

African Woman -A painting by Deepak Menon (House Husband)

Nothing posted by me since a long time - so here is a painting I made many years ago of an African Woman playing an African Musical Instrument - I saw the picture in the National Geographic Magazine somewhere and though the painting is changed a lot from the Photograph, the expression on the woman's face was so plaintive that it stuck to my mind and the painting reflects that to some extent!
